Summer would usually mean a drive to the beach, mountain climbing, kayaking, and other fascinating activities. This year, however, I'm staying home with my pile of John Grisham and Chinua Achebe books to relish my newly painted home courtesy of the best Philadelphia painters.

It's not every year that I acquire the service of a painting company in Philadelphia; oftentimes, I like my house painted by myself. I've lived in an ocean-inspired home for close to five years but I just woke up one day and figured an art deco would seem a better theme. I stayed at my mother's house, which is just two blocks away from home, for five days. While there, she would always take me to surplus furniture shops to check out pieces that would go with the new colors of my house. She knew places that offered genuine paintings of legendary artists sold at drop down prices. Mom is a smart shopper, not the kind who would limit herself to the merchandise in a mall. I got myself some antique café chairs, a three-panel metal wicker where one can freely create a mosaic, and multipurpose colored bottles for functional and aesthetic use. By the time I got home, I was awe-struck by the richness of colors that filled it. The painters I hired did a great job! You won't find a boring spot as every surface sparkles with the mixture of striking hues. With this colorful environment, I don't think I would want to be anywhere else.
